Wandering People

Hi!

My name is Rodrigo and together with my wife Kirsten, we own Wandering Feathers.

Our dream wasn't just about escaping to the countryside; we wanted to become active members of our community, contributing to a thriving local food system. Now, we’re committed to cultivating relationships centred around sustainable food practices that benefit both the environment and our community – especially you, the people who support us by eating our eggs!

We’re excited to engage with local businesses, schools and anyone interested in learning about our practices so please do get in touch and arrange a visit.

Our dream is becoming a reality, and we can't wait to see where this journey takes us.

My journey began in the hospitality industry, working in high-end restaurants, bustling pubs and even private boarding schools.

Spending a decade honing my skills and learning the trade, I developed a deep appreciation of how food is grown and handled in good farming and production systems – and the difference this makes to how it tastes.

At the time, Kirsten was working as a primary school teacher. She had a deep passion for education, but she began to notice a real disconnect between children and their knowledge of where food comes from.

This, together with our aspirations for a rural life, fuelled our decision to pursue sustainable agriculture and lead to our first major risk…

...we shared dreams of leaving the London we grew up in and swapping it for a simpler, more fulfilling rural life.

It's been a journey filled with uncertainty, but we decided to take the risks and make the sacrifices necessary to achieve our goals.

Along the way, we built meaningful relationships with farmers across the UK who gave us an insight into rural life and the various farming systems – including organic and regenerative agriculture. We were excited to learn more about these alternative systems, and see that harmful mass production doesn’t have to be the only way.

After getting to know the team at Kingsclere Estates, and their vision of a closed loop circular farming community, we forged a partnership through their Pitch Up! campaign. Pitch Up! invites businesses and start-ups onto likeminded farms across the UK – and was just the leg-up we needed to get going.

We now produce our organic eggs here and our vision is to expand into other poultry products soon.

From the day we met...

We decided I would leave my job security, take a massive pay cut and go part-time to study agriculture, hoping to better understand the industry.

'...if we're going to do this, one of us better know what we're doing...'

Good People, Great Thinking

Working Together

Being able to work alongside an established farming business with so much knowledge and experience to tap into has been invaluable to us as. We can share labour, skills and capital, and have great people to bounce ideas around with.
