Kingsclere Estates is full of fields growing grass and herbal leys (a mix of plants including chicory and clover, which are specifically designed to help the soil) These grow by absorbing sunlight and nutrients from the land (no chemical fertilisers or pesticides here thank you very much!).

Cows from our friends at the Roaming Dairy graze this pasture, transforming it into delicious milk and producing manure – which returns valuable nutrients to the earth, increases the soil’s fertility and provides food and habitat for many species of insects.

Our small flocks live in mobile houses that move across these fields following the cows about 2 days behind.

Every day at first light, the chickens are let out of their houses and are allowed to wander freely on fresh organic pasture. Running around exploring new corners and being their curious selves. A hens absolute favourite activity is to scratch around the cows manure to unearth nutritious bugs and worms to eat – a great source of protein.

Pasture-raised eggs: How it works

As they roam, the chickens evenly distribute the nutrients across the grass and help keep the cows healthy too, by getting rid of parasites.

By allowing our animals to behave naturally, we minimise waste, create a healthy environment and ensure the highest levels of animal welfare.

Our eggs, a product of this natural process, are delicious and nutritious. You’ll notice the yolks are darker orange than supermarket eggs (but unlike some, we don’t add any colourants to the organic grain we feed our chickens).

The taste speaks for itself. Try them and you’ll see…
